Key takeaways

  • An entry is not a selection, and selection does not guarantee a visa or green card.
  • The current court-ordered deadline for DV-2027 results is December 3, 2026 — the schedule may change.
  • The State Department does not send selection letters or emails. Check only at the official DV Entrant Status Check (dvprogram.state.gov) with your confirmation number.
  • If selected, you may apply through consular processing (Form DS-260) or, if eligible and in the U.S., adjustment of status (Form I-485).
  • Your visa must be issued or adjustment approved by September 30, 2027. Visa numbers may run out earlier.
  • As of October 29, 2026, the State Department says it has paused issuance of all Diversity Visas.

When will DV-2027 results be available?

  • By December 3, 2026 — the current court-ordered deadline for the Department of State to make DV-2027 selection results available. The schedule may change.
  • Week of December 7, 2026 — Weiss & Moy will follow up with clients to remind them to check their official status and discuss next steps.
  • September 30, 2027 — the DV-2027 fiscal year ends. Your immigrant visa must be issued or your adjustment application approved by this deadline.

How do I check if I was selected for DV-2027?

The Department of State does not send selection letters or tell you by email that you were selected. Its fraud warning also says private companies are not authorized to notify entrants of selection. Use the official DV Entrant Status Check at dvprogram.state.gov with your confirmation number. The Department may send a reminder to check, but the status page is the official source.

  • Keep your confirmation page and number somewhere secure — you need them to check your result and to continue processing if selected.
  • If the official status page shows you were selected, contact us right away. We will review the result with you and advise on next steps.

What does it mean if I am selected?

Selection means you may continue with an application. It does not mean a visa is available or that you qualify. The annual number of visas is limited, and not every selected person will receive one.

Contact an attorney promptly. We review your case number, eligibility, immigration history, and family information, then advise whether consular processing or adjustment of status may be available. Your case number and the monthly Visa Bulletin affect when a visa number is available.

Consular processing: Form DS-260

If you are outside the United States, or cannot adjust status here, the usual route is to apply for an immigrant visa through a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. After selection, you can begin by submitting Form DS-260 for yourself and each eligible family member. The Kentucky Consular Center can schedule an interview only after reviewing the DS-260 and when a visa number is available for your case.

Adjustment of status in the United States: Form I-485

If you are physically in the United States, you may be able to apply to adjust status by filing Form I-485 with USCIS. You may file only if you meet the adjustment requirements, are admissible, and a DV number is immediately available for your case. Selection alone is not enough. USCIS must approve the application before the DV-2027 year ends, so have an attorney review your eligibility and timing before filing.

Is Diversity Visa issuance paused?

As of October 29, 2026, the Department of State says it has paused issuance of all Diversity Visas. Its guidance says applicants may continue submitting visa applications and attending interviews, but no DV immigrant visas will be issued while the pause remains in effect.

This affects consular visa issuance. The State Department notice does not determine whether a person in the United States can adjust status through USCIS. Contact us for a separate review if you are considering Form I-485. This policy may change, and we check it again before advising on next steps.
